Cubilose Extract(Bird's Nest Extract) is the nest which mixes saliva secreted by several kinds of swiftlets of certain Swiftlet genus and Apus from the Apodiformes of the Apodidae, with other substances. The main ingredients of Cubilose Extract: water-soluble protein, carbohydrate; trace elements including calcium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, potassium and amino acids (lysine, cystine and arginine) that play an important role in promoting human vitality.
It is an essential constituent of many glycoproteins, glycopeptides and glycolipids with numerous biological functions, including blood protein half-life regulation, a variety of toxins neutralization, cellular adhesion, immunological antigen-antibody reaction and glycoprotein lytic protection. is also the active substance of cubilose (edible bird's nest) and the of many new drugs.
Edible bird's nest (EBN) is the nest of the swift that is made from its saliva. Although EBN has been widely used for enhancing immunocompetence, its antiviral efficacy has not been studied in detail. We found that Bird's Nest Extract could strongly inhibit infection with influenza viruses in a host range-independent manner when it was hydrolyzed with Pancreatin F. Western blotting assay showed that the Bird's Nest Extract bound to influenza virus. Furthermore, Bird's Nest Extract could neutralize the infection of MDCK cells with influenza viruses and inhibit hemagglutination of influenza viruses to erythrocytes, but it could not inhibit the activity of influenza virus sialidase. Fluorometric HPLC indicated that the major molecular species of sialic acid in EBN is N-acetylneuraminic acid. The results suggest that EBN is a safe and valid natural source for the prevention of influenza viruses.
